Domestic Student Hours

Domestic students are allowed to work up to 28 hours per week.

International Student Hours

International students are allowed to work up to 20 hours a week during the semester and 28 hours a week over breaks or intersessions.

Graduate Assistantship Hours

Graduate Assistantship contracts (including graduate professional assistantships, graduate research assistantships, graduate teaching assistantships, graduate instructor assistantships) are limited to working 20 hours, if working over 20 hours (total) they are required to complete a “Greater than 0.5 FTE form” in order to be eligible to work over 20 hours/week. Any additional, concurrent part-time employment (regardless of title) within the UM System must be approved by your supervisor and the Dean of the School of Graduate Studies. While holding a Graduate Assistantship, your total combined employment at UMKC may not exceed 20 hours per week or 50% FTE and you must notify us of all other current employment at UMKC. While you may request a petition to be approved to work over 20 hours per week, there is no guarantee that it will be approved. This petition does not apply to international students.
