The Digital Projects department digitizes rare materials found in the UMKC Libraries’ Special Collections & Archives division, creating digital collections and digital exhibits for research. Technologically, we are supported by Libraries’ Systems & Technology staff, MOBIUS, and LibraryHost, and we describe our digital content ethically. To discuss our work or partner, contact us.

Antigüedades Mexicanas: Antiquities and Nation-Building

This exhibit explores the origins of ancient Indigenous codices depicting Mixtec and Cuicatec histories, and how the codices were changed in 1892 to more favorably represent the European conquest of Mexico.

Digitization Fundraising

We need your help! The incredibly large & wholly unique Edgar Snow archive at UMKC Libraries contains over 40 collections (33,000 items) that document the work of Kansas City journalist & war reporter Edgar Snow. This massive archive includes his diaries, letters, & photographs from China, Russia, & Japan-occupied parts of Asia, from 1928-1957. A major highlight of the collections is Snow’s diplomacy efforts with American−Chinese political relations during the rise of the Chinese Communist Party.
