Library Renovation News

The fourth floor of Miller Nichols Library is closed for renovation. The renovation is planned to be complete for the fall 2025 semester. The second floor of the library is now the silent study floor; this change is permanent.

Academic support during renovation

During summer session, June – August, tutoring is available virtually. For the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters UMKC Tutoring will be available in person in Atterbury Student Success Center room 236.

Renovation plans

The fourth floor will undergo a full renovation to create new spaces for student success programs, some of which are in the Atterbury Student Success Center. The renovated floor will offer open study spaces for all students, study and meeting rooms, and laptop stations. Student success programs such as Supplemental Instruction, UMKC Tutoring, UMKC PALs (Peer Academic Leadership program), and First Generation Roos will gain areas to meet with the students in their programs and updated classroom space. The fourth floor will be fully closed for renovation from May 13, 2024 and is scheduled to reopen fall 2025.

Silent study space has permanently moved from the fourth floor to the second floor. New furniture – and in the future, reconfigured spaces – focuses on creating optimized spaces to meet silent study and focused study needs. The new Active Study Room on the 2nd floor offers low-speed treadmills with adjustable-height desks; this room is silent. The Information Services computer lab on the 2nd floor is silent; however, computer lab users may speak with lab workers quietly. Lab hours and information.
