The UMKC Libraries, our Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America (GLAMA), and UMKC LGBTQIA+ Programs and Services honor Pride month in June with activities that celebrate our LGTBQIA+ students and employees.
Kansas City LGBTQ History Mosaic
- Our library is the home of this vivid piece of ceramic art, representing an array of events and figures from Kansas City's LGBTQ past.
- Special Collections & Archives Reading Room, Miller Nichols Library 3rd floor
- Open by appointment in the summer. Schedule a visit to see the mosaic and ask about GLAMA tours and archival research.
GLAMA Tour
- July 18, 2026 | 2:00-3:30pm | Miller Nichols Library
- Take a tour of the Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America! Materials will be gathered from across archival collections and arranged by theme, and we'll provide context for everything on display. Tour also includes a behind-the-scenes peek at how the archives are created and managed!
- Free registration for the tour is required.
Queer American History
- September 13 - November 15, 2026 | Sundays, 2:00-4:00pm | Miller Nichols Library
- A semester-long free class examining the history of the LGBTQ community in the US, with a special emphasis on Kansas City. The is open to the Kansas City community and meets in person at Miller Nichols Library.
- Free registration for the class is required.
Summer Reading Book Display
- June 2 - July 31, 2026 | First Floor, Miller Nichols Library | Library building hours
- Our summer reading display of books about Art! focuses on subthemes about Pride, Kansas City, and international art as we welcome the World Cup to our city.
- Display located between the Robot Café and the Service Desk
