Policies and Procedures for Special Collections Researchers

No food and drink.

All food and drink should be properly disposed of and/or securely stored in a personal belonging. Be sure hands are clean and free of residue such as grease.

Use pencil only.

Pens, markers and other permanent writing instruments are prohibited to protect collection items.

Only personal items needed for research should be out.

Special Collections staff may require other items to be stored for safety and/or security reasons.

Complete a Materials Request Form.

Materials must stay in the LaBudde Special Collections Research Room and may have other unique terms of use. Materials must be returned to staff when Special Collections closes for the day.

Handle materials with care and respect.

Handle all collection items carefully and not mark, fold, tear, rearrange, or otherwise interfere with their integrity or order. Missing, damaged or misfiled items should be reported to LaBudde Special Collections staff.

Be aware of quantity restrictions for requested materials.

While there is no limit to the total number of items you may consult, there is a limit to the number of items consulted at the same time. These restrictions vary by circumstance and are set by LaBudde Special Collections staff.

Cameras and other recording devices may be used only with permission from LaBudde Special Collections staff.

Duplication of material is governed by department policy, federal copyright law, and other restrictions that may apply to specific collections and sensitive material, so please ask first.

Additional policies and procedures may apply.

Special Collections staff reserve the right to place further restrictions on access and use of collection materials and have the right to refuse any request.
