Photography & Videography

The University of Missouri-Kansas City University Libraries provide collections, services, and study space for the UMKC community, and for visitors conducting research. The following guidelines govern photography and videography in the Miller Nichols and Health Sciences Libraries, and aim to help preserve our safe and respectful environment.

Photography or videography in the Libraries must not capture identifiable likenesses of individuals or related images, including the individuals’ computer work stations, books, periodicals, documents, etc., without their permission. We recommend using a photo release form for all photography/videography taken on UMKC premises.

Additionally:

  • Snapshot photography and videography is allowed as long as it is not disruptive to library users. Please contact the Libraries Administrative Office for details and approval prior to taking photos/video.
  • Organized, posed group or individual photography or videography for the purpose of class projects is allowed as long as it is not disruptive to library users. Please contact the Libraries Administrative Office for details and approval prior to taking photos/video.
  • Commercial photography and videography, large scale projects that require special equipment, or any project not mentioned within the scope of this policy must be approved by the Dean of Libraries (or proxy) and the Office of Strategic Marketing and Communications.
For questions about this policy, call (816) 235-1531 or email umkcula@umkc.edu.
