The iX Theatre is a flex-use space on the first floor of Miller Nichols Library with projectors, screens and a sound system so that it may be used for presentations or performances. UMKC-affiliated groups may request to use the iX Theatre Monday – Friday between 8am and 5pm (except during university midterms, finals, and intersession) with at least two weeks advance notice. Requests are considered on a case-by-case basis.
Uses and Eligibility
- UMKC-affiliated groups may request to reserve the space at no cost.
- Student groups must be a registered UMKC student organization.
- Appropriate uses of the iX Theatre are presentations, performances, or events sponsored by UMKC student, faculty, staff, or affiliated constituent groups.
- The space is located in an open and public area located in the southeast corner of Miller Nichols Library’s first floor, so the volume and activity must never be confidential or potentially disruptive.
- When not in use for an event the space is open study for individuals and small groups of library users. This use will take priority during university midterms and finals.
- Reservation requests will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Group Responsibilities
Upon arrival your group representative should come to the Miller Nichols Library first floor Service Desk, where a staff member will check out AV equipment to you and direct you to any supplies you may need.
Your group is responsible for:
- Arranging an audiovisual technology walkthrough with the library. If you will use the projectors and sound system in the iX Theatre, your group may schedule a short technology orientation before your event by emailing LibraryAdmin@umkc.edu. A print guide to the AV systems is included with the equipment that will be checked out to you. Library staff are not available to provide AV support during your event.
- Bringing a laptop to run presentations if using the projectors.
- Notifying the Library if food and/or drink will be present at the event. Library staff must be informed of the food before the event so custodial services can give the room special attention after the event. Food and drink must be kept inside the iX Theatre area during the entire event.
- Setting up the area. Chairs and tables are available for your use. More chairs may be available if requested at least 2 days in advance.
- Limiting all use, including registration of attendees, to the iX Theatre only. The group is encouraged to supply signs directing participants to the space at the north and south entrances. It is suggested that the group’s staff should be positioned at the entrances to direct their members to the room.
- Arranging for catering or other food delivery, including meeting and escorting food delivery personnel to the space.
- Cleaning up after the event, including making sure all food is out of the space and tables/chairs are clean and ready for re-use.
- Advising Miller Nichols Library Service Desk staff when the event is ended. Advise the library quickly of any spills or damage that occur during your event.
- Notifying the library if your event is cancelled so that we can release the space to other uses.
A UMKC group may use the theatre at no cost, but the Libraries can offer no staff support except posting notices to reserve the space before the event, supplying sound equipment and connectors, and offering one pre-event technology walkthrough.
