Helen Xarhis-DePasco Collection Now Available

Photographs in the Helen Xarhis-DePasco Collection are now available in the UMKC Digital Special Collections. The 24 digitized photographs are related to the World War II-era home front experiences of a Kansas City-born woman and her family during the war.

Helen Xarhis-DePasco was born July 29, 1921, the third of six siblings of Johnny and Nina Xarhis. The family lived in Kansas City, Kansas, where Frank Xarhis, Helen's grandfather, was proprietor of the Royal Café. Eventually the family moved and Helen attended school in Independence, Missouri. At the time the correspondence in this collection began, Helen was working as a bartender at Riley's Bar in Kansas City. During the years 1943-1947 she made a couple of changes in employment, working at the B-38 Bar, also in Kansas City. In 1947, Helen married Louis DePasco.

More information on this archival collection can be found on the Helen Xarhis-DePasco Collection page.
