Anthony has been awarded the UMKC Excellence in Multiculturalism, Globalism, Diversity, and Inclusion Staff Award! He currently works in the LaBudde Special Collections as a Senior Special Collections Assistant. Since joining University Libraries, Anthony has taken on a leadership role by co-chairing the libraries’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. In this role, he has fully engaged in several key initiatives including the development of the Lean In Together anonymous feedback forum, Everyday DEI educational blog series, and the policies review project. He has been actively engaged in groups outside of the library, including UMKC’s Anti-Racism White Allies & Advocates affinity group and the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project, which provides services to KC’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. As stated in one letter of support, “Anthony has gone above and beyond volunteering his time and expertise to support the education of Kansas City community members, students, faculty, and staff by presenting on how to critically consume primary sources to more accurately understand historical events through a racial justice lens.” His presentation at the Educate-Organize-Advocate conference has led to invitations to guest lecture in classes and so much more.
Anthony’s deep commitment and responsibility to active engagement in social justice shows up in every aspect of his life. He has shown admirable courage, leadership, and generosity in sharing his knowledge and is an exemplary part of the UMKC community.
