How did Charlie "Bird" Parker earn his unique nickname? Our very own Chuck Haddix is happy to tell us!

The name Charlie Parker is synonymous with jazz, which has played a tremendous role in Kansas City art, music, and culture. Sam Hrabko, a Kansas City Art Institute student, collaborated with Chuck to produce a wonderful animated short about how Bird's nickname came to be.

Visit the UMKC Libraries Facebook page to watch the animated video (1 minute 20 seconds) and learn how both chickens and spirituality play a part in the Bird story.
