Join us for a free virtual event, Eight Days in April: Race, Rebellion, and Reconciliation on February 18 from 6:00-7:30pm featuring a panel discussion about the eight days surrounding the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in April 1968 and how the impact of those days continues to shape Kansas City today.
To celebrate Black History Month, the Children’s Mercy Hospital Diversity and Inclusion staff produced a video about the Wheatley-Provident Hospital, Kansas City’s first hospital for Black residents, owned by Black doctors.
The UMKC Libraries celebrate Black History Month with our 12th annual African American Read-In, and this display of works from our collections by African American authors. The African American Read-In celebrates African American literature and literacy with readings of excepts from poetry, speeches, stories, and other works of literature created by African American authors and artists.
