Recipient of 2020's Martha Jane Starr Award
Angela Rabin, English and History doctoral candidate, is 2020's recipient of the Martha Jane Starr Award! The scholarship is awarded annually to graduate students with research featuring a women's or gender studies focus. Rabin is proposing an oral history project profiling African-American women who own restaurants in the South. Rabin is relying particularly on the Judy Chaiken and Lucile H. Bluford collections here at the UMKC Libraries. Congratulations, Angela; we look forward to learning more through your hard work!
In 2016 The UMKC Libraries won a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Challenge Grant, which established a small endowment to grant one UMKC graduate student each year with an award for research using the LaBudde Special Collections for research in women and gender studies.
