The photographs in the Dolores Hobley Collection are now available in UMKC Digital Special Collections.
Local dealer and collector, Dolores Hobley maintained a booth at Waldo Antiques of Kansas City for several years, collecting material which documented the African-American cultural experience during the late 19th century and into the 20th century, in and around Kansas City. The photographs are largely unidentified, but there are a handful of known images, including funeral director and local activist T.B. Watkins, Kansas City jazz vocalist Myra Taylor, and blues pianist and vocalist Memphis Slim. Also included are snapshots of school activities and groups, many from Western Baptist Seminary; as well as numerous posed and studio portraits of men, women and children.
More information on this archival collection can be found on the Dolores Hobley Collection page.
