Miller Nichols Library Learning Center
Miller Nichols Library is UMKC’s largest library and houses the general collection, Music/Media Library, LaBudde Special Collections and University Archives, and Marr Sound Archives. Wireless internet is accessible throughout the library as well as seating for individual and group study.

Ground Floor (quiet conversation)

The Ground Floor (Floor Plan) has multiple individual study spaces that include tables, chairs, and vending machines near the Marr Sound Archives. Wall outlets are available throughout the floor. Open study spaces are not reservable.​

The Music/Media Library includes a computer lab with music notation software (Sibelus, Finale, MuseScore), color and black-and-white printing and scanners. Headphones and headphone adapters available for checkout at the Service Desk.

Reserve a Study Room

Both group and single study spaces are available on different floors.

First Floor (regular conversation)

The First Floor (Floor Plan) is equipped with a series of study rooms along the North side of the building, public computers, printers, and a café. The iX Theatre and Writing Studio are both located on this floor, as well as a Service Desk, and accessible, all-gender, family-friendly restrooms. See the Service Desk for assistance.

Second Floor (silent study)

The Second Floor (Floor Plan) is equipped with wall-mounted white boards and markers, rolling white boards, and tables appropriate for silent study.

Third Floor (quiet conversation)

The Third Floor (Floor Plan) is home to LaBudde Special Collections and University Archives. The Digital Collaboration Studio and study rooms are to the left of the main elevator and stairs. The GeoSciences Museum and SHSMO (State Historical Society of Missouri) are to the right of the stairs and elevators. Accessible, gender-neutral restrooms can also be found on this floor.

The Digital Collaboration Studio includes an open area with mobile furniture and high-definition monitors, seminar room with video conferencing capability and digital whiteboard and two small collaboration or study rooms with high-definition monitors. Inside the Studio, The Collaboration Lab provides four workstations with specialized research software for UMKC faculty, staff, and student use. The workstations are available on a first-come-first served basis, with a requested maximum use time of two consecutive hours.

Fourth Floor (closed for renovation)

The fourth floor of Miller Nichols Library is closed for renovation until Fall 2025.
