The Gay and Lesbian Archive of Mid-America (GLAMA) is a is a collecting initiative to document the histories of the LGBT communities in the Kansas City region. The following resources are curated from GLAMA’s collections, using primary source materials to tell the stories of our local queer history.
- Making History: Kansas City and the Rise of Gay Rights Built by students in the UMKC Public History program in 2017, this online exhibit explores gay and lesbian activism before Stonewall, revealing Kansas City’s role in the early gay rights movement in the United States.
- The Ordinance Project is a documentary film that tells the story of the contentious struggle to pass an ordinance in Kansas City, Missouri prohibiting discrimination in housing, employment, and public accommodations based upon sexual orientation and HIV status.
- Videos from the AIDS Crisis This collection provides a unique window into the history of Kansas City’s LGBT communities.
