Explore “The KC That Never Was” Online

An illustration of a plaza with a glass pyramid in the center

Coinciding with the exhibit currently on display in the library’s Special Collections Gallery, “The Kansas City That Never Was” is now available as a digital exhibit. Scroll through to see alternate versions of the Liberty Memorial, phantom buildings that might have been erected in areas we now know as parks, numerous intricate plans for interconnecting downtown’s districts, and two unrealized stadiums.

An illustration of a mid-century modern building made of pale stone with many columns and a pedestrian bridge over the adjacent street.

Exhibit curated by Stuart Hinds, Curator for Special Collections and Archives. Digital exhibit designed by Sean McCue, User Interface and Graphic Designer.
