$1000 scholarship opportunity

The Libraries are now accepting applications for the annual Friends of the Library Scholarship! This $1,000 scholarship opportunity is open to any active, degree-seeking UMKC student with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The winner will be selected based on submission of a descriptive essay and a research paper, project, musical composition, presentation, poster presentation, work of art, web page, or other creative work completed for UMKC coursework that demonstrates using the resources or services of the UMKC Libraries.

To apply, submit the following to LibraryAdmin@umkc.edu:

  • Your name, student number, UMKC email address, and phone number.
  • Your degree sought (e.g. undergraduate degree, master’s degree), department, and expected graduation date.
  • A 400-600 word descriptive essay of how you used library resources and services to complete the project, and what they added to your work.
  • A copy or reproduction of the project submitted for course credit, the course number, semester enrolled, and instructor’s name.

Deadline for submissions: Friday, March 21, 2025, 5:00pm

The scholarship winner will be announced in late April 2025. Payout will be applied toward fall 2025 and spring 2026 tuition and fees. Applicants are advised that applying grants the UMKC Libraries a non-exclusive license to use the short essays describing use of library resources and services, and may be quoted in whole or in part for use in promoting UMKC Libraries. Applying also grants the UMKC Libraries a non-exclusive license to use submitted class projects, in whole or in part, for use in promoting UMKC Libraries.
