Equity Initiatives

The University Libraries are fully committed to creating and maintaining an anti-racist and anti-oppressive environment for a diverse academic community of faculty, staff and students. Recent initiatives are outlined here, and include library focused efforts to implement and maintain anti-racist and anti-oppressive practices in our services. We are committed to our core campus values of learning, diversity, integrity, accountability, respect, and collaboration.

Call to Action

A call for collective action for UMKC Libraries' workers and users, in response to concerns raised during the uprisings of summer 2020 and immediately following a Call to Action for Libraries' workers from the Equity Committee. (issued June 2020)

BIPOC Workers Statement

Concrete recommendations to address disparities faced by Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) library workers written by BIPOC library workers. (issued August 2020)

Libraries' equity focused action plan, developed in partnership between administration, Equity Committee, and BIPOC workers in response to their statement and other feedback. (issued January 2021)

Leads the Libraries' anti-racism and anti-oppression efforts, as well as coordinates information for the Inclusive Excellence Plan. (established May 2018)
