The UMKC Libraries are excited report that we have received a gift totaling $30,942 from the Herbert Vincent Jones Jr. Foundation, Bank of America, N.A., Trustee, to fund a term-limited appointment for a Senior Academic Digital Projects Fellow. This Fellow will directly support the migration of UMKC Libraries’ Digital Special Collections to Islandora 8, the new version of the software used to manage the digital collections, as well as a diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility assessment of these collections. The Libraries’ new Head of Digital Projects, Megan Oliver, will lead the migration. Apply now for the Fellowship, to start in early spring 2022.
The UMKC Libraries’ Special Collections & Archives steward collections of primary source materials rich in the humanities, particularly in local performing arts, LGBTQ communities, social services organizations, jazz, Kansas-Missouri, late 19th century Western Americana, and national radio broadcasts from the 1930s-1960s. Our publicly accessible Digital Special Collections website provides discovery, access and use of digitized materials held physically in the LaBudde Special Collections and Marr Sound Archives. Digitization of the materials serves the broader research community, making the items accessible beyond the library building, offering more ways for users to discover them, and creating opportunities for them to be used in digital scholarship projects.
