Community Services

Guest computer use is not currently available due to COVID-19 restrictions.

All visitors to the library may use our collections while on site and receive basic library research assistance. Using a computer or audiovisual materials requires a valid photo ID. For research related to LaBudde Special Collections, Marr Sound Archives, or UMKC University Archives, contact those departments directly. To borrow materials or use a computer, register at the Miller Nichols Library First Floor Service Desk.

  • Guest Borrower Program

    Guests of the library who are at least 18 years old and wish to check out library materials may join the Guest Borrower Program. Join at the Miller Nichols Library First Floor Service Desk.

  • Guest Computer Use

    Visitors to Miller Nichols Library may visit the first floor Service Desk for a 2-hour guest login to a computer. Valid photo ID required.

  • Guest Researcher Program

    For a fee, individual researchers, UMKC alumni, and groups such as law firms, businesses, and other organizations can obtain academic research materials (books and articles) through UMKC Libraries. This service, provided by the UMKC Libraries Interlibrary Loan department, reflects the Libraries' commitment to UMKC alumni worldwide and to the Kansas City community.

    UMKC Alumni Association

    Paid members of the UMKC Alumni Association have limited checkout privileges.

  • Retired Faculty & Staff

    Retired UMKC faculty and staff have library privileges, with some restrictions.

  • Reciprocal Borrowing

    Students, faculty, and staff at Kansas City area colleges and universities and at MOBIUS member libraries are eligible for Reciprocal Borrowing with other libraries. Most colleges and universities in the Kansas City area are participants. University ID is required.

  • High School Students

    Area high school students enrolled in the High School College Program can also arrange to check out books.

  • Courtesy Card Programs

    The Courtesy Card Program provides direct on-site borrowing privileges for students, faculty and staff at participating academic/research libraries in the Kansas City area.

  • Area Libraries

    A compilation of area libraries including academic, public and research libraries, regional and worldwide.
