For UMKC instructors assigning your classes to read articles, book chapters, or eBooks, the Libraries have implemented two new tools to make linking to library readings easier than ever.
You can search for items through EBSCO and ProQuest using tools built into Canvas, select the ones you want to assign, and embed them for your students to view in Canvas courses and assignments. Students will then be able to read the selected articles or eBooks without leaving Canvas and without logging in again.

If you want to assign library readings that are not supplied by EBSCO or ProQuest, you can still link to them in Canvas. Simply locate any article or eBook the Libraries have in our collections, copy and paste a link into your course site, and be sure to use a stable url, or a permanent link that will not break over time. You can consult the Find Permanent Links in Library Search instructions on the Linking to Library Resources guide.
If the reading you want to assign is not available electronically, you can place a print copy on Course Reserve for your students to use or read in the library. Course Reserves limit borrowing to a short time period or to only inside the library so that many students can use the same item.
And finally, if you want to assign readings from books that the library does not yet own, place a Purchase Request and we will buy the book or eBook so that your entire class can benefit from it.
