Apply for Graduate Writing Camp

Camp Write-A-Lot | June 2-6, 2025 | 9 am – 5 pm | Miller Nichols Library

Join us in June for Camp Write-A-Lot, one week of all-day writing programming for UMKC graduate students focused on the production of text. The camp will be held June 2-6, 2025 in the Miller Nichols Library. Applications for a spot at the camp are due February 23, 2025.

The UMKC Graduate Writing Initiative, the Writing Studio, and the Libraries are partnering to help you meet your writing goals by providing the space, time, and support to make substantial writing progress or complete your project. Graduate students will spend a majority of their time working on their theses, dissertations, or other writing projects. Learning experiences such as panel discussions and workshops will be scheduled each day.

Eligibility

Participants must be a currently enrolled student in a UMKC graduate or professional program. A cohort of 30 participants will be selected to participate in the 2025 camp and will be paid a $250 stipend* for successful participation. You must attend all five days of the camp, 9 am – 5 pm, June 2-6, 2025.

Application

Participants will be selected based on their responses to the online application. Applications are due at midnight February 23, 2025.

*The stipend is considered in estimates of financial assistance and can impact federal student loan availability. The stipend might lower the amount of any federal loan you are eligible to receive. For more information about federal student aid policies, please contact the UMKC Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. For domestic students, stipends are not earned income in the form of wages, no taxes will be withheld from stipend payments. You should keep track of the payments, however, for tax purposes. Taxes are withheld on stipends that are awarded to most international students, depending on the country of origin. Stipends will first be applied toward any outstanding debts you have with the University.
