All Aboard: Highlights from Kansas City’s Streetcar Legacy

An old photograph of an electric streetcar with two operators standing next to it

Now through May 2026 | Miller Nichols Learning Center Foyer

As UMKC prepares to welcome the Kansas City Streetcar to our campus doorstep in October 2025, we look back on the streetcar presence that used to span the city, operating from 1869 – 1957. A series of archival images show streetcar routes, storage buildings, and various styles of streetcars in service juxtaposed with the current landscape of each image location.
