October is Social Justice Month at UMKC, and our 2022 social justice book is Dr. Kim Nielsen’s “A Disability History of the United States.”
Dr. Nielsen is the keynote speaker for the UMKC Social Justice Book and Lecture Series, taking place on October 20th from 6:00pm – 7:30pm in the Student Union Theater, room 103. A book sale and signing will follow.
This month, you can browse the October book display featuring books about and by disabled people and what that particular label means in the United States. Come by the first floor of the library to read through the titles, learn a little more, or interact with an app that will give you a glimpse of what it is like to have a visual impairment.
Borrow a copy of “A Disability History of the United States from the book display at the library, or log in with your UMKC username and password to read the eBook.
The Social Justice Book Discussion provides readers the opportunity to further the discussion regarding Dr. Nielsen’s work and ideas. Join us for this virtual discussion October 25th from noon to 1:30pm. This event is eligible for First Semester Experience credit. Please register to attend the book discussion and receive the secure meeting link.
