Guide to Reference online is published by the American Library Association. The Guide is a collection of 16,000 sources chosen and evaluated by reference librarians and subject specialists.

British Periodicals consists of two separate collections, British Periodicals Collection I and British Periodicals Collection II.

British Periodicals Collection I consists of more than 160 journals that comprise the UMI microfilm collection Early British Periodicals, the equivalent of 5,238 printed volumes containing approximately 3.1 million pages. Topics covered include literature, philosophy, history, science, the fine arts and the social sciences.

British Periodicals Collection II consists of more than 300 journals from the UMI microfilm collections English Literary Periodicals and British Periodicals in the Creative Arts together with additional titles, amounting to almost 3 million pages. Topics covered include literature, music, art, drama, archaeology and architecture.

ARTbibliographies Modern (ABM) provides full abstracts of journal articles, books, essays, exhibition catalogs, doctoral dissertations, and exhibition reviews on all forms of modern and contemporary art. It includes abstracts of English and foreign-language material on famous and lesser-known artists, movements, and trends. Areas of coverage include:

The ACLS (American Council of Learned Societies) Humanities Ebooks contains a collection of over 2,200 full text titles within the fields of Humanities. The selected titles are recommended by publishers, scholars and librarians of the discipline.

The ebooks are either XML-encoded titles or scanned page-image versions. This database also provides access to reviews of works in the collection either in full text or through links to other databases.

This full text collection of primary sources focuses on worldwide economic literature from 1450 to 1850.  The online version of The Goldsmith's-Kress Library of Economic Literature, it includes the full text of books (61,000+), periodicals (450+), political pamphlets and broadsides, government publications, proclomations, and ephemera.  It includes materials in foreign languages including French and German.

Scopus is the largest indexing database at UMKC. It includes 18,000 journals and conference proceedings in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities with worldwide coverage. It is our major database for cited reference searching: finding out how and by whom articles have been cited. Although the database indexes journals back to 1823, the citation analysis of these journals only goes back to 1996.
