The Suzanne Statland Collection in Holocaust Studies documents the impact of the rise and reign of Nazism, and the ensuing Holocaust. The collection pertains primarily to the persecution of Jewish peoples in the twentieth century, and secondarily, to the persecution of individuals and peoples during any historical period and at any geographical location. The collection consists largely of published books and pamphlets containing primary research information, including contemporaneous photographs, diaries, letters, and propaganda. Some newspaper clippings and reports are also included. Special Collections houses ephemera and primary research material, including some oral histories, for the collection as well as an inventory of this material. Secondary materials for the collection are housed in the general stacks throughout the Miller Nichols Library and can be found among materials pertaining to religion, history, social science, political science, fine arts, and language and literature. Secondary materials include books, periodicals, government documents, microforms, audiovisual material, music, and other optical and electronic media. The
Statland Collection was created in 1991 when Dr. Harry Statland established
an endowment in honor of his late wife, Suzanne Statland (left), who had
done considerable research on the Holocaust during her life. (For further
information on Suzanne Statland, consult the Suzanne
Statland Papers housed at the Western
Historical Manuscript Collection - Kansas City.) Dr. Statland contributed
books and archival material to help start the collection and the Suzanne
Statland Endowment ensures its continued future growth. The Miller Nichols
Library welcomes inquiries regarding the donation of suitable research
material to the Statland Holocaust Collection. Please contact Brenda
Dingley, Interim Coordinator for Collection Development, at (816) 235-2226.
Materials in the Statland Collection are cataloged and listed in MERLIN, the on-line public access catalog of the University of Missouri Libraries. Materials are grouped in the catalog under the subject heading Holocaust, Jewish (1939-1945) and its sub-headings and related subject headings. Researchers interested in uncataloged materials should contact the Special Collections Librarian for more information. Photocopying is allowed but is subject to the condition of the material and approval of the Special Collections Librarian.
