LaBudde Special Collections is home to millions of items largely made possible through donations from generous individuals and organizations, beginning in 1937 with William Volker's gift to the University of the Robert M. Snyder, Jr. Collection. Today, LaBudde Special Collections contains books, including rare and limited edition; manuscript collections and personal papers; photographs, postcards and other images; sheet music and handwritten scores; historical newspapers and magazines; city directories; maps and atlases; historical documents and research files.
Marr Sound Archives was established in 1986 through a gift of 42,000 sound recordings from UMKC Associate Professor of Communication Studies Gaylord Marr and his wife Olga. Now home to hundreds of thousands of sound recordings on formats spanning the history of recorded sound, Marr Sound Archives continues to grow through the generosity of individuals and organizations who have donated money, record collections and related items.
