Faculty Proxy Service

A service the Miller Nichols Library offers to full-time faculty members is the establishment of a proxy who can borrow books in the faculty member's name for a designated period of time. The proxy must be someone already eligible for borrowing privileges and both parties need to remain in good standing with the library in order to maintain the arrangement.

    • The Proxy card is used when students check out any item for their instructor; the proxy should not use their own student library account for this purpose. The proxy is responsible for any fines or charges related to items checked out for the instructor on their own student library account .

    • The proxy card is VALID FOR THE CURRENT SEMESTER ONLY.  A new application form may be submitted for subsequent semesters. Multiple proxies may be listed on one form.

    • The instructor is responsible for items checked out on the proxy account . Overdue notices and bills are sent to the instructor. Overdue or billed items on the proxy account do not in any way affect the student's personal account with the library or the university.

    • Order MERLIN/MOBIUS items using the instructor's name and the ID# on the front of the proxy card. If the student is ordering Interlibrary Loans for the instructor, login to ILL@UMKC using the ID# on the front of the proxy card and the password assigned by Interlibrary Loan upon the creation of the proxy account.

    • Please renew or return all materials checked out on the account in a timely manner. Any overdue or billed items may delay or prevent further checkouts for this or any of the instructor's other proxy accounts until the billed item(s) is (are) returned or replaced.

Please ask at the First Floor Service Desk or call (816) 235-1526 for additional information about this program.
