"PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950's. These citations are from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources." [from the PubMed website]. Abstracts are available for some articles.

Links to full text can include:

• Links to PubMed Central, NLM's free digital archive of life sciences journal articles.
• Links to the publisher's website. Not all of these are free. Those requiring a subscription, membership or other fee are annotated with an asterisk (*). To see if access is available through a UMKC subscription, use Serials Solutions to search for the journal title.
• Links to aggregators which provide full-text access. (Examples of aggregators include Ovid and FirstSearch.) Usually these are not free. Those requiring a subscription, membership or other fee are annotated with an asterisk (*). In addition to bibliographic information from MEDLINE and OLDMEDLINE, PubMed includes:

• Citations to articles from journals indexed in MEDLINE, but which are outside the scope of MEDLINE coverage (mostly chemistry and general science journals)
• Citations to articles published before the journal was selected for MEDLINE indexing
• Selected life sciences journals not selected for inclusion in MEDLINE and which submit full text to PubMed
