The University of Missouri President's Innovation Fund supports the University of Missouri Library Directors Electronic Resources Initiative (UM Electronic Resources Initiative) for three years at a cost of almost one million dollars. The University of Missouri Electronic Resources Initiative required a match from each campus and the University of Missouri Library Systems Office. The leadership of the University of Missouri System and each of the four campuses are responsible for significantly improving information resources for teaching and research at the University of Missouri. The project supports system-level licensing of electronic resources such as full-text electronic journals, reference sources, and abstracting and indexing databases for the faculty, students, and staff of the four University of Missouri campuses, with remote access for authorized users. MOBIUS, also known as Missouri Bibliographic Information User System, is a consortium of academic libraries with member colleges and universities in the state of Missouri. Fifty charter members began the project in July 1998 and other institutions have joined since then. With the addition of the Springfield-Green County Library in 2003, the consortium now includes public libraries as well.
MOBIUS has an active program of consortial licensing of electronic information resources such as electronic journals. New projects being planned or considered include cooperative collection development and cooperative storage. MOBIUS is supported by a combination of state appropriations and member fees.
