The Trauma Behind the Mask: The "It" Girl with a Secret
Join the UMKC Women's Center, Violence Prevention Response Program, and the Libraries for a discussion over the book Luckiest Girl Alive, by Jessica Knoll.
This book is the narrative of TifAni FaNelli and her efforts to find security and success in life as she faces emotional struggles tied to traumatic events in her past. This book deals frankly with how sexual assault traumatizes its victims, and also covers the “rape culture” present in our society that often goes unrecognized or is given a free pass.
The Libraries' Scott Curtis will facilitate the book discussion. Scott had this to say about the book:
I found this to be an engrossing and surprising book. There are twists that will change how you feel about the main characters by the time you finish reading it. I think that I have a new understanding of the ongoing trauma for victims of sexual assault. I also have a better appreciation for the pervasiveness of cultural gender bias that continues to make such injustices possible.
Please RSVP by October 28 - A free lunch is provided to all attendees
