The University Libraries extends congratulations to all who are graduating in May - what an accomplishment!
We hope the Libraries made a difference in your studies here at UMKC. If you are returning for an advanced degrees, we look forward to working with you on your research.
It has been an exciting year for the Miller Nichols Library with the opening in August of the new Miller Nichols Learning Center (MNLC). The excitement of the opening days continued into the year with new classes in the Spring and events throughout the year.
The most exciting aspect of the new MNLC was getting our 51st Street entrance back! We know you agree as our gate counts for the Fall 2013 tripled from Spring 2013!
The Friends of the Library hosted its two inaugural events in the MNLC by highlighting some of the exciting work of UMKC Faculty and Staff in its new portFOLio Series.
- Nov. 6, 2013 - Chuck Haddix discussed his book Bird: The Life and Music of Charlie Parker with live music performances by Bobby Watson and a jazz ensemble. Held in the Jeannette Nichols Forum in the MNLC.
- April 2, 2014 - From Whiteboard to Boardroom: the EyeVerify Story with Dr. Reza Derakhshani, Maria Meyers, and Toby Rush. MNLC Room 451.
Through the generosity of the Gilder-Lehrman Institute for American History and the National Endowment of the Humanities, the library hosted 4 films on the civil rights movement in the Created Equal series in the MNLC as well. We look forward to continuing programming for the campus and the Kansas City communities.
