The Vision: Expansion & Revitalization

Today's university library is a community center where students, faculty, and staff collaborate, interact, teach, enjoy and pursue all aspects of learning.

The Miller Nichols Library, on the campus of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), has been that place since 1969. It is the largest academic research library in the metropolitan area, housing more than one million books, serials and electronic journals, and an array of specialized databases providing easy access to scholarly information.

Now is the time to prepare the Miller Nichols Library for the future. We must update and expand our environment to serve a world dependent on rapidly changing technology and the transformation of teaching and learning styles and methods. More importantly, this expansion must go forward to support the explosive growth of UMKC's student population and its unique special collections.
