Building Planning Committee

Committee Charge

The MNL Building Planning Committee works with the architect, general contractor, and staff in the library and other resident units in the development of detailed plans for the Miller Nichols Library Renovation/Expansion and Interactive Learning Center project and informs the Building Advisory Committee of progress. The committee will focus on three functional areas: program design, implementation, and project communication. In an effort led by the architects and engineers retained as professional consultants, the work of the committee includes but is not limited to the following:

Program Design
  • Provide input on the program and workflow analysis
  • Participate in the detailed planning for space usage, ongoing maintenance/upkeep needs, environmental controls, technology, interior design, furnishings/equipment, and relocation (temporary and permanent) of staff, offices, service points and collections
  • Implementation

  • Plan transitions/staging for operational functionality throughout the duration of the project
  • Establish schedules for service moves to provide the least amount of disruption to services
  • Plan for collection re-locations and process materials as needed
  • Project Communication

  • Communicate information and updates regarding the project to the community and participants
  • Report progress and issues back to the Building Advisory Committee and to various constituencies as needed
  • Provide PR functions for the project including Web site updates, news releases, campus updates, etc.
  • Ensure temporary signage is in place to direct library users during the construction project
  • The Core Library Planning Team will lead the internal library specific planning. Task forces will be established as needed to address specific programmatic planning and will include appropriate key expert staff. Task forces will extend for the duration needed for the planning and implementation of the charge for the group.
