Music/Media Library

Welcome!  The Music/Media Library collection includes videos, sound recordings, scores and music books. The Listening/Viewing Center is available for use by anyone with a valid photo I.D. You can enjoy an opera on video, listen to a recording on reserve for a Conservatory of Music and Dance course or watch a film on reserve for a non-Conservatory class here. Music materials can also be found in the Marr Sound Archives and the Special Collections Department. The Marr Sound Archives contains sound recordings from cylinders to 16-inch transcription discs, reflecting the American experience in recorded sound. The library's Special Collections includes sheet music, rare photographs and the personal papers of several musicians of note.

Hours: The Music/Media Library's hours are the same as the hours at Miller Nichols Library.

Music/Media Desk: Located by the north door to the library, the Music/Media Desk is the paging center for all audio/visual materials held in Miller Nichols Library. Please request audio/visual materials at this desk. The items can be viewed/heard in the adjacent listening center. UMKC faculty, staff and students may also check out audiovisual items. The Music/Media Desk also holds reserve items for courses using audio-visual material (slides, sound or video recordings, for example).

Listening/Viewing Center: Adjacent to the Music/Media Desk is the Listening/Viewing Center. Compact disc players, turntables, video players and other audio-visual equipment is available for use. Headphones may be checked out at the Music/Media Desk with a valid photo I.D.

Music/Media Reference Assistance: Basic music reference assistance is available at the Music/Media Desk. More specialized music reference assistance is available from the Head, Music/Media Library, Laura Gayle Green, (816-235-1679).  Guides on using music, dance, and theatre resources are available through LibGuides.

New Titles in the Library: Each month the library creates a list of books, scores, sound recordings and other media added to the library's collections. For materials in the Music/Media Library, check the Music New Titles list. For new titles in the Miller Nichols Library see the Miller Nichols list.
