Checking Out Videos, Compact Discs, and Other Audiovisual Items

Check out items at the Music/Media Desk, which is located on the ground floor.

Sound recordings, videos, and other audiovisual items: All A/V items may circulate to UMKC students, faculty and staff for two weeks. UMKC students may check out a maximum of 10 A/V items at any one time with no renewals; UMKC faculty and staff may check out a maximum of 25 A/V items at any one time with one renewal. Items are counted as follows: a 3 disc CD set counts as three items. (These items have the location "UMK MNL Music A/V" or "UMK MNL Media A/V" in the MERLIN Library Catalog.)

Renewing Music A/V items: You can renew a Music A/V item one time if the Library has received no other requests for it. Reserve items and Music A/V items cannot be renewed. You can renew materials in person, by phone, or online. To renew an item online:

  1. Go to the MERLIN Library Catalog.
  2. Click on University of Missouri-Kansas City Libraries.
  3. Click on View Your Own Record (Renew Items/Create PIN).
  4. Complete the form and click on the button labeled"Display record for the person named above."
  5. Note: if you do not already have a PIN number, create one now.
    1. Your pin can be any combination of letters and numbers up to 30 characters long.
    2. Type the pin you have chosen in the box labeled "Please enter or create your PIN
      number."
    3. Type your pin a second time.
    4. You must remember your pin. Library staff cannot look it up for you.
  6. To renew all items checked out, click the button label"Renew All."
  7. To renew a specific item, click in the checkbox next to that item. Then click on the button label"Renew Selected Items."

Renewing Media A/V items: Media items are not renewable.

Returning items: Please return materials to the Music/Media desk.

Overdue Items:

Your Library Record: Your library record includes information on all materials you have checked out, when they are due, etc. You can view your library record online.

  1. Go to the MERLIN Library Catalog.
  2. Click on University of Missouri-Kansas City Libraries.
  3. Click on View Your Own Record (Renew Items/Create PIN).
  4. Complete the form and click on the button label"Display record for the person named above."
  5. Note: if you do not already have a PIN number, create one now.

Marr Sound Archives: Items in the Marr Sound Archives are special collections items and do not circulate. In-house listening facilities are available. For more information, contact the Marr Sound Archives at (816) 235-2798.

If you are not a UMKC student, faculty member or staff member, you can view or listen to audiovisual materials in the Listening/Viewing Center by presenting a valid photo id.
