In addition to information resources on the UMKC campus, the students and faculty may utilize the resources of the other three campuses of the University of Missouri through direct borrowing and interlibrary loan services.
The UMKC University Libraries are a full-member of the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), a non-profit research consortium, whose collections are available for scholarly use through microform and facsimile archival records, major microform collections, foreign and domestic newspapers, state and some federal documents, and area studies materials from various parts of the world. For a description of the collections see the Collections section of the CRL website (www.crl.edu). You can search the holdings of CRL (http://catalog.crl.edu) on the World Wide Web.
Within the Kansas City metropolitan area, resource sharing by area libraries is pursued to avoid costly duplication of research materials in many subject areas. Area facilities within fifteen minutes of the UMKC Volker and Hospital Hill campuses include four research libraries. Science and technological research reference sources are available at the Linda Hall Library (http://www.lindahall.org), a privately-funded independent institution less than one block from the Miller Nichols Library. Linda Hall is a US Patent Depository Library. In the fine arts, the research collection of the Spencer Art Reference Library (SARL) (www.nelson-atkins.org/information/library.htm) of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art may be consulted on site by UMKC faculty, students, and the community. The SARL collection is especially strong in art history, Asian art, and the decorative arts. Holdings of both libraries are listed in the online catalog, LEONARDO (leonardo.lindahall.org).
UMKC medical and health sciences resources are supplemented by the nearby libraries of the University of Kansas Medical Center Archie Dykes Library, and the history of medicine collections of the Clendenning History of Medicine Library and Museum. The online catalogs of other local libraries are listed among the online resources on the Website.
UMKC faculty may request library privileges at the member institutions of the Association for Research Libraries/OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program. Exchange agreements covering students and faculty include the Kansas City Library Network, and the UMKC University Libraries Courtesy Card Program.
