"Request item" in MERLIN

If you want to request a book from another MERLIN library, you can do so electronically. To use, go into the MERLIN Library catalog, and search all MERLIN locations. From the Health Sciences Library website use the "Quick Links" drop down menu and select Search MERLIN. Once you have located the item that you want at ANOTHER campus location:

1. Click on Request Item.
2. Enter your name as "firstname lastname" and press return.
3. Enter your University ID no. with "k" on the end and no spaces and press return.
4. You will be prompted to enter or create your PIN number. Make this an easy to remember number and note what you use. When creating the number for the first time you will be prompted to enter it twice.
5. NOTE: If you do forget your number, go to the circulation desk and let them know. While they can't tell you what your number is (it's encrypted), they can erase it so you can start again.
6. Use the drop down menu (Choose a Pickup Location) to select the library where you wish to pickup your book(s). (We are UMKC Health Sciences Circulation).
7. You can leave the "Any Special Instructions" blank if you don't have anything to add.
8. When you're finished entering your information, click on the Submit above information button.
9. You will receive a confirmation screen which should read "Your request has been sent to the library."

You have now completed the request and can stop or enter another request. You may want to print out the record to help you remember you ordered it. The HSL staff will email you when your materials arrive.

ADDITIONAL NOTES FOR MOBIUS USERS - when using the Mobius Catalog you will find the words REQUEST THIS ITEM in the center of the screen directly under the item. When you click on this it will bring up a screen that asks, "With which institution are you affiliated?" There are many choices, but MERLIN is what you want to select. Then click on the Submit above information button. After this point, the steps are the same as in MERLIN's Patron Initiated Borrowing.
