Remote Access

The UMKC library databases are available on the Internet through all UMKC computers--whether you are on Hospital Hill or on the main Volker campus. The MERLIN catalog--a catalog of all University of Missouri system libraries is available to anyone with an Internet connection.

However, if you would like to search UMKC databases from home or from somewhere off-campus, we provide remote access options. Remote access allows you to use our databases from your home, work, or any Internet connection. There are two options for remote access: the Single Sign-On account, or a UMKC VPN connection from the university.

Single Sign-On

The Single Sign-On can be used from any computer with an Internet connection. To use this go to:

• The Health Sciences Library website.
• Select the database you want to search.

You will be prompted to enter your Single Sign-On user name and password or a 9-digit UMKC ID number followed by the letter k (example: 0123456789k) and last name as needed.

UMKC VPN connection

If you have cable or DSL connection to the Internet at home, you have access to many of the UMKC library on-line resources (databases, full-text articles, etc.) by using your single sign-on account. However, by downloading the VPN (virtual personal network) software, you are able to access all the UMKC resources without repeated prompts for single sign-on. Once you download the software, available from UMKC Information Services at http://umkc.edu/vpn, then you just need to start the client and you should have seamless access to library databases.
