The library will attempt to obtain from other libraries any materials not available in the Health Sciences Library. This service is provided for our primary clientele (UMKC students and faculty and persons affiliated with the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Biological Sciences and with Truman Medical Center.) Other patrons should check with the library at their own institution for interlibrary loans first. Public libraries will process interlibrary loans for unaffiliated persons. Charges and response time will vary depending on the item requested. NLM's Loansome Doc service is available for users of PubMed. For more information regarding HSL interlibrary loans, please call or email Jonice Rogers at (816) 235-1878.
If you would like to request your Interlibrary Loans on-line, please use our electronic Interlibrary Loan form. For assistance in ordering books or articles, see the guide "Ordering Books and Articles from Other Libraries."
If you regularly use PubMed, please see our Loansome Doc Fact Sheet.
Document Delivery Suppliers. These are commercial organizations that will get you the article you need usually in 24 hours for a fee. You will need a credit card to pay for the service and some way to receive the article, usually a fax machine number. A Web page that lists many document delivery suppliers is located at http://www.library.vcu.edu/tml/docsupp/. These suppliers are listed alphabetically; we recommend you check out the delivery guarantee before ordering.
For more information, please see our page, Frequently Asked Questions about Interlibrary Loan.
A reference librarian is normally available to offer reference assistance from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. If the Reference Desk is not staffed, inquire at the Circulation Desk or send the librarians an email. Librarians are always happy to assist you in finding information you need.
All patrons may use the Ikon Services copy machines located in the library. Copicards cost $1.00, and copies are $.09 each in addition to the cost of the card. The library keeps limited cash, and the photocopy machines do not take change. Please bring dollar bills if you would like to use the copy machines. Library staff will make photocopies of items for faculty members of UMKC. Please use a photocopy request form. Call Circulation at (816) 235-1880 for more information on this service. All photocopying in the Health Sciences Library is subject to the provision of the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17).
