Find Music & Sound Recordings
How to Search the Library Catalog (MERLIN) for Music & Sound Recordings
Much of our music and sound recordings are in the Library Catalog (MERLIN). Material types can be used to the limit search results to the type of material you want. The following are the material types used to describe our audiovisual materials.
Material type Use to find PROJ MEDIUM (projected medium) films, videos, DVDs, VHS tapes, laser discs, slides SPOKEN RECORD non-musical sound recordings, speeches SOUND RECORD musical sound recordings
- Library Catalog (MERLIN) Keyword search
- Enter your search terms in the first box.
- Use the drop-down box beside "Material Type" to select the type of material you are looking for.
- Other Library Catalog (MERLIN) searches
- Execute your search (author, title, number, etc.).
- Limit search results to a particular material type with the limit/sort feature:

Where music, sound, and video materials at the UMKC Libraries are located
- Marr Sound Archives
- Located in Miller Nichols library, the Marr Sound Archives holds over 0,000 sound recordings in formats that include LPs, 78s, 45s, cylinders, transcription discs, instantaneous cut discs and open-reel tapes.
- Music/Media Library
- Located on the ground floor of the Miller Nichols Library, the Music/Media Library houses a collection of videos, sound recordings, scores and music books. A browsable display of film and video covers is available for items in the Media Collection. A Listening/Viewing Center is available for use by anyone with a valid photo I.D.
- Health Sciences Library
- Videos at the Health Sciences Library are kept on reserve.
- Medical Education Media Center (MEMC), located in the School of Medicine, houses some of the Health Sciences Library's videos and anatomical models.
- Instructional Resources Library (IRL)
- Located in the Dental library, the IRL includes video tapes, slides and patient education materials.
- Leon E. Bloch Law Library Video Collection
- Located in the Leon E. Bloch Law Library, the Law Library video collection contains feature films, as well as films on jury selection, legal ethics, legal research, trial practice, and trials.

Many of these exhibits and projects feature photographs, poster, sound recordings and video clips. - Digital collections
