The UMKC Friends of the Library celebrated their 42nd anniversary year in 2007. The UMKC University Libraries could not have grown without the support and goodwill of its friends in the community throughout the years. The Friends of the Library is a membership organization dedicated to providing needed community support to strengthen collections and services of the university libraries. Since their founding in 1965, the Friends of the Library have provided significant funding for UMKC library collections through the Friends Annual Gifts and through the individual gifts and bequests made by their members. Your contributions benefit all people who use the Dental Library, Health Sciences Library, Marr Sound Archives, Miller Nichols Library, Music/Media Library, and the Special Collections.

This year marks the 41st Annual Gift of the UMKC Friends of the Libraries. This year’s gift supports the UMKC University Libraries and the UMKC community with the purchase of over $30,000 in new library resources. Since 1966, the cumulative amount of the Annual Gifts exceeds $1.16 million dollars.
When the Friends call for proposals, they consistently receive many more submissions than funds permit. This year was no exception, with thirty-eight proposals received, totaling nearly $78,000.
The Selections Committee gives careful consideration to each proposal, and in some cases, recommends partial funding of proposals. Twenty-two proposals were selected for funding by the Selections Committee on March 2. This year, as in previous years, one of the Friends stepped forward to individually fund a proposal beyond the $30,000 available:
The Annual Gift is made possible through membership dues and book sale proceeds. Thank you all for your continued support and membership.
Today the Friends of the Library Selections Committee presents to the membership the choices that make up the 2007 gift, the 41st Annual Gift to the UMKC University Libraries.
