Book Donations

Libraries Gifts-in-Kind Program

The UMKC University Libraries were built through the generosity of donors and friends. A gift of books, sound recordings, and other materials to the Libraries helps to improve scholarship and research opportunities for students, faculty, and members of the community.

If you would like to donate a single book, sound recording or an entire collection to the libraries, please let us know so we can assist you in making plans.

If you would like to make a monetary donation, please visit our Giving page.

Gift Appraisal Information for Donors

Remember that according to the federal tax law donors of gifts to the UMKC Libraries and similar institutions must furnish their own appraisal value for contributions claimed as tax deductions.

If you would like to do your own research on the estimated current market value of items to be donated, the UMKC Libraries have reference works available in the Reference Department that you can consult. Prices of older books may be found in American Books Prices Current, Bookmen's Price Index, and Internet sources for example. New book prices may be checked in Books in Print.

For your convenience, a list of appraisers for those donors desiring professional assistance is provided. The inclusion of an appraiser on this list does not constitute an endorsement of the appraiser or the quality of services. As the donor, you are responsible for any charges and fees incurred for professional services contracted. We are happy to assist you with further information if you need assistance locating additional appraisers or have any questions about gifts to the UMKC Libraries.
