Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, vols. 1-6 by Bryan Lee O'Malley

I saw the movie version first and really enjoyed it, so I thought I'd take a look at the original. As a video game lover, I appreciate the way that aesthetic is brought to both the movie and the graphic novel. I can't say that one is more successfully rendered than the other because I thought that both were so well done. There's a lot of attention to detail and the graphic novel does make you work (at least a little bit) to notice things and figure out what is going on.

The Walking Dead, by Robert Kirkman

book coverCop gets shot. Cop goes into a coma. Cop wakes up to a world full of zombies. Thus begins Robert Kirkman’s epic graphic novel series, The Walking Dead. Started in 2003, the series depicts Rick Grimes’ (the cop) mission to protect his wife and son in a nightmarish world where the dead lumber around and devour the living. In volume one, Rick wakes up in an abandoned hospital. He makes his way to Atlanta and, through one of those miraculous coincidences seen only in fiction, discovers that his wife and son are still alive in a camp on the outskirts of the city.
