portFOLio is the signature programming series of UMKC Friends of the Library designed to highlight UMKC Libraries by providing the Kansas City community with life-long learning opportunities linked to UMKC’s strategic priorities: Visual and Performing Arts; Economic Development and Research; Health and Life Sciences; and Urban Engagement.

Born out of the research of Dr. Reza R. Derakhshani, an Associate Professor of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at UMKC. EyeVerify is a fast-growing Kansas City startup based on patented “EyeVein” biometrics. Dr. Derakhshani's interdisciplinary research has brought about many successful joint ventures from diverse fields such as medicine, experimental psychology, cyber security, computational optics, identity management, and trusted mobile platforms. EyeVerify is the exclusive provider of EyePrint Verification, a password-free, secure authentication mobile experience that uses existing cameras on smartphones to image and pattern match the blood vessels in the whites of the eye.

Maria Meyers heads the UMKC Innovation Center which organizes a variety of university supported business outreach   services into a single organization. With a focus on technology commercialization, the Center connects university researchers with the community to ignite collaborative partnerships leading to new innovations and business growth.

Toby Rush is an entrepreneur and the founder and CEO of EyeVerify. His expertise in imaging, sensors, and mobility gives him early insight into the trends and technologies impacting consumers and the enterprise.
