Dean Bostick accepts appointment of Dean of Libraries, IIT

[The following was provided by the Division of Academic Affairs and Office of the Provost.]

Dean Sharon Bostick has accepted the position of Dean of Libraries at the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) in Chicago. She will be leaving UMKC June 30, 2012.
During Dean Bostick’s seven years at UMKC’s University Libraries, she led a major strategic planning process, and helped guide architects, consultants, and constituents in the vision and design of Miller Nichols Library’s expansion and renovation project, which included the installation of RooBot, our Automated Storage and Retrieval System.

Purple doors signal planned entrance

Northwest entrance will connect library to center of campus, University Way.
Recent renovations to Miller Nichols Library have been received with resounding enthusiam. Students love the open floor plan, combined service desk, group study rooms, and added computers on the first floor. As soon as they opened last spring the new iX Theatre, Presentation Practice Room, and Robot Cafe quickly became some of the most popular meeting and study spaces on campus.

Scanners replace library photocopiers

No more wasting paper, your precious print quota, or schlepping around folders and backpacks full of loose leaf paper copies - UMKC Libraries is happy to announce the installation of Knowledge Imaging Center (KIC) scanning stations.
 
Scanning with KIC is free and they are super easy to use! Capture digital images of research and study materials, then either email them to yourself or save them on a portable flash drives. Scanners can handle virtually any size book, magazine, journal, newspaper, photo or other material from postage stamp size up to 11 x 17 inches in black and white or full color. The images and even text from PDF files can then be pasted into reports or research papers.
