About the UMKC Libraries

The University of Missouri-Kansas City Libraries provide research facilities, resources, and services in support of academic programs of the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The UMKC Libraries are in four locations.

The Leon E. Bloch Law Library, on the Volker Campus, is administered by the UMKC School of Law.

• The Leon E. Bloch Law Library encompasses all major areas of legal scholarship and practice. In addition to a strong print collection, the library contains a Electronic Resource Center that houses computer-assisted legal research terminals (LEXIS and WESTLAW), dozens of commercial CD-ROM databases, and a local area network for instructional and research purposes.

The Miller Nichols Library (MNL), Health Sciences Library (HSL), and Dental Library are administered as the University Libraries and share resources including acquisitions, cataloging, and computer support. The University Libraries are supported by the Friends of the Library, a membership organization dedicated to providing needed community support to strengthen the collections and services of the University Libraries.

• Miller Nichols Library, on the Volker Campus.
  • The Miller Nichols Library contains books, journals and other resources in the humanities, social sciences, sciences, education and business. The Marr Sound Archives, the Music/Media Library, Special Collections, and an extensive Government Publications collection are housed here.

MERLIN Library Catalog

MERLIN Library Catalog contains the holdings of the libraries of the four University of Missouri campuses (Kansas City, Columbia, Rolla, and St. Louis). MERLIN stands for Missouri Education and Research Libraries Information Network.

Additional resources are available via MOBIUS, also known as Missouri Bibliographic Information User System. This consortium of academic libraries with member colleges and universities in the state of Missouri allows faculty and students access to over 14 million items from any personal computer. Fifty charter members began the project in January 1999.
