Getting Started
- To find out if we subscribe to a particular publication, you can begin by checking the MERLIN Library Catalog
- Select the University of Missouri-Kansas City Libraries
- Search by Journal, Magazine and Newspaper Title
- Use the information found in MERLIN to determine the location of the publication
- If the item is held by the Libraries, a box on the screen for
the item shows its location and the volumes and dates available.
- The item can be at one of four library locations at UMKC:
- UMK MNL is Miller Nichols Library at 800 East 51st Street.
- UMK HSL is the Health Sciences Library at 2411 Holmes, 2nd
floor of Medical School.
- UMK Dental is the Dental Library at 650 East 25th Street,
3rd floor of the School of Dentistry.
- UMK Law is the Law Library at 500 East 52nd Street in the
Law School.
- In Miller Nichols Library, most of the magazines and journals are
in print format, arranged alphabetically on the second floor. If you
see a special notation for the location "Periodicals" in the
MERLIN record, go to the second floor to look for your item.
- In Miller Nichols Library, for newspapers, magazines and journals
that are held in a microformat (microfilm, microfiche, etc.) the location
information in MERLIN will indicate availability on the first or ground floor.
Beyond MERLIN
Some online publications are not listed in MERLIN. To find out if we have full text online access to a particular journal, magazine, or newspaper, check:
If the UMKC Libraries do not own the journal, magazine, or newspaper
- If the UMKC Libraries do not subscribe to or have
access to the full-text online of the journal, you may be able to obtain access to it through Interlibrary Loan.
- Check the catalogs of other local libraries to find the publication elsewhere in the Kansas City area.
